![]() The parallel structure of the definition of ability and sexuality is incredibly striking seeing as how to be able-bodied is to be “free from disability”, just as being heterosexual is to be “the opposite of homosexual” (McRuer 303). For instance, it is very usual for films today, especially romantic comedies, to portray queer existence as a disease the same way that a disabled existence might be. ![]() With that said, the film did still manage to cover important issues that need attention. The most refreshing and likable aspect of this film has to be the fact that it wasn’t a typical coming out story where someone dies or someone is struggling with his or her sexuality. Overall, this film explored the complications that come along with a modern queer relationship in a relatable and comical manner that was hard to not enjoy. This of course leaves her with no choice but to feel as though she’s made a huge mistake, and this time it’s not one that can be fixed with a box of chocolate and a bouquet of roses. When Elise breaks up with her last girlfriend so that she can pursue another woman, she starts facing backlash starting from her mother and all the way to her friends. Elise has a lot going on for her success, intelligence, charm, and sadly a long history of broken hearts since she just happens to be a serial monogamist.
